The Two Blind Men

1-29-11
The Two Blind Men

Mat 20:29 And as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him.
Mat 20:30 And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.

This brings to mind the hymn, “Pass me not, O Gentle Savior, hear my humble cry; while on others Thou art calling, do not pass me by. Let me at Thy throne of mercy find a sweet relief; kneeling there in deep contrition, help my unbelief. Trusting only in Thy merit, would I seek Thy face, heal my wounded broken spirit, save me by Thy grace. Thou the spring of all my comfort, more than life to me, whom have I on earth besides Thee? Whom in heaven but Thee?”
As Jesus was passing them by, they heart that He was passing them, and CRIED OUT!! They didn’t care what the crowd would think, they needed the Savior! The healer! They were blind. They were blind just like anyone is without Jesus. They didn’t know Him, but they had faith to cry out to Him.

Mat 20:31 And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.

The multitude rebuked them, hold your peace! Why do you cry out? Stop crying out, be at peace, you are fine! When you cry out to the Lord, save me! And He has not yet come, don’t let the multitude quiet you, don’t let anyone quiet you until He has stood still and come to you Himself! They were not quieted or given a peace from people, they needed to see Jesus! They wouldn’t settle! They cried all the more!! Confessing Him before all men, not even thinking or caring of the cost!

Mat 20:32 And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you?

Jesus heard them! He STOOD STILL for them, these blind and beggarly men He called to them! Jesus Himself called to them! I am sure the multitude, all others, would tell them, Jesus is not going to listen to you, He will not stoop down to you, get over it. But HE DID stand and call to them and ask them what they wanted Him to do!

Mat 20:33 They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.

They cried to Him, calling Him Lord, that they might see Him! That our eyes be opened! They knew they were undeserving, they also knew that they needed Him! They wanted to see Jesus!

Mat 20:34 So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.

The Lord is compassionate, His compassions fail not, He touched them. No one would touch them, they were lowly and beggarly, disabled, not any man would have had compassion on them in that day they lived. But Jesus was not a respecter of persons, He was humble and meek and loving. He had mercy upon them that cried out to Him. Anyone who cries out to Him, calling on His name, seeking Him He will in no wise cast out. Anyone who is persistent like these blind men, zealous to reach the Lord though they could not see! Jesus gave them sight!! With these blind men His timing was immediately. Not with everyone does He give immediately to, yet they were broken and desperate, this was good soil. He came to them and gave them their petition. Who else has the words of eternal life? Where else would they go? They followed their Savior.
